It's Teatime! High Tea Delights at The Riverside Hotel
Once a delicacy reserved for aristocratic nobility, "The Classic English Afternoon Tea" experience, at the Riverside Hotel's newly appointed lobby lounge and tropical gardens, is now available to all who love tea and are looking to enrich life with the serenity of teatime.
Serving as a guide to the cozy ambiance, quiet conversation and etiquette of high tea, "The Classic English Afternoon Tea" program at the Riverside Hotel goes beyond the history of this gourmet beverage. In fact, it celebrates the art and passion that makes drinking tea one of the world's most cherished and memorable occasions.
Revitalizing what was once a very formal, ritualized gathering - during which tea, thin sandwiches and miniature cakes were served on the best China - the Riverside Hotel is renewing interest in social graces and bringing back a gentler time.
Taking cues from a favored English past-time and boasting a unique sampling of Queen Catherine, Darjeeling, English Breakfast, Chamomile and Verveine teas - as well as "scented teas" and Black Currant - the newly introduced Full Tea experience begins with an assortment of tea sandwiches, oven fresh scones with Devonshire cream, homemade seasonal preserves and freshly baked pastries (including fruit tartlets, cakes, short bread, fruit cake and tea cookies.)
For the more seasoned tea sommelier, the Riverside Hotel's "Royal Tea" experience adds shrimp and crab salad sandwiches, individual vol au vonts of shrimp, mushroom and eggplant tofu. Open-faced sandwiches of thinly sliced salmon with dilled cream cheese and chocolate dipped strawberries for dessert enhance this classic experience.
Complimenting both tea experiences is "Her Majesty's Favorites," an a la carte offering of fine patés, delicate Osetra Russian Caviar with Bellini, imported cheese and an assortment of ocean-fresh seafood, such as smoked salmon, shrimp, scallops and crab.
Offering a tea sensation, enhanced by the ambiance, cuisine and superior service of the Riverside Hotel, the afternoon tea experiences can be arranged for small-to-midsized groups and start at $24 per person.
