Johnny V's Kicks Off Summer With First-ever "Barbeqlooza"
Independence Day is almost upon us and across the country on this important day, Americans will be celebrating with a barbecue. A long-lasting tradition born in the south, Independence Day barbecues are now enjoyed by upwards of 70 million people annually. This year, Las Olas Boulevard staple Johnny V is kicking off the season with a twist on the tradition - its first-ever "Barbeqlooza!"
Starting Thursday, June 26th and continuing on the last Thursday of every month all summer-long (July 31st, August 28th, etc.), the "Floribbean" flavors of Johnny V's cuisine will become a family affair. The summer-styled, all-you-can-eat, themed menus begin on June 26th with a barbecue featuring all the fix'ns a true southerner would expect - and some they wouldn't.
So what's "Barbeqlooza?" The festivities start at 7:00 p.m. with an unbelievable selection of summer-inspired cocktails. Fresh watermelon mojitos, honey dew martinis and sweet iced tea will perfectly complement passed catfish and cornbread crositini, jalapeno tartar and Paddlefish caviar.
The soiree continues with a variety of family-style appetizers. Snack on watermelon and roasted beet salad served with caramelized shallot whipped goat cheese; summer vine ripe red tomatoes with red onion and red wine vinaigrette; and Iceberg lettuce wedges with broken green pepper rings and chunky blue cheese. Or, try Johnny V's own rendition of Dr. Seuss' green eggs and ham: basil deviled eggs with crispy Jamon Serrano.
Full already? The Barbeqlooza is just warming up for the main event. Johnny V's Fourth of July-inspired feast continues with slabs of chipotle barbequed baby back ribs, southern fried chicken and Johnny V's secret "white trash gravy." Yes, you read right! You can also enjoy ten-hour smoked beef brisket with Kansas City barbeque sauce and pig served with Chicharrones.
Johnny V's barbecue-inspired family dinner includes all the southern styled sides, such as the hotspot's self-described "Should Have Been Famous" fresh creamed corn, warm potato salad with Applewood Bacon, Haitian mango cole slaw and green bean casserole with wild mushroom sauce and Funions.
After supper, the deal gets sweeter with fresh strawberry shortcake cupcakes, double fudge smores "flambé" and summer peach cobbler with handmade vanilla ice cream.
Get into the summer spirit with this Independence Day-themed feast. "Barbeqlooza" at Johnny V on Las Olas is only $35 per person, plus tax and gratuity.
Up next? A Spanish-style fiesta themed tapas event the last Thursday in July.
